Τhe EU GCC Clean Energy Network aims to catalyze partnerships between clean energy stakeholders in the GCC and the EU.
The Network is a source of information on clean energy topics, the inclusive platform for stakeholders to meet and debate and the bridge towards cooperation on clean energy, including policy, technology and industry as well as research aspects, among various players across the EU and GCC countries.

The EU-GCC Clean Energy Network and the Clean Energy Business Council sign MoU
The EU-GCC Clean Energy Network (CENII) hosted with success the first Working Groups’ Consultation Workshop, with experts from the two regions’ discussing cooperation potential in the fields of Renewable Energy Sources, Electricity Interconnections and Market Integration. The EU-funded workshop was organised with the support of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy and in association with the Clean Energy Business Council. The workshop gathered more than 100 senior energy professionals from across the region and included addresses from distinguished public and private sector authorities and experts including representatives from Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, the EU Delegation to the UAE, the Clean Energy Business Council, Dubai Carbon Centre, Qatar National Research Fund, MESIA, BELECTRIC Gulf Ltd, Petroleum Institute, CENER, Hydrocity Ltd, DWE and DII, Castalia Strategy, TRANSCO, Siemens, GCC Interconnection Authority, Baringa Partners and others.

The Network at the RE-ACTIVATE Workshop, 31 May 2016, Cairo, Egypt
Dr. Mustapha Taoumi participates as an invited speaker at the workshop that the GIZ project RE-ACTIVATE (Employment Promotion through Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency in the MENA Region) is organizing together with RCREEE, the Regional Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency, on 31 May 2016 in Cairo on the sidelines of the Arab Forum for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ARFREE) organized by the League of Arab States (LAS). The workshop is on ”The Socio-Economic Benefits of Sustainable Energy: Opportunities, Approaches and Instruments for Local Value and Employment Promotion through Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency in the Middle East and North Africa”.

The EU GCC Clean Energy Network supports the training seminars that the OPTIMUS EU research project is offering on how to automate energy data collection and integrate different data streams to make smart energy decisions for various types of buildings in a city to achieve cost and CO2-savings. This is an excellent opportunity for involving GCC city stakeholders in the relevant EU research agenda and providing insight in related best practices. The Network was a supporting organization at the Oman Energy and Water, Conference and Exhibition held in Muscat, 23-25 May 30, 2016, with Frank Wouters, the Network Director contributing as a speaker in the main conference. Interesting interaction with local energy stakeholders took place and the Network identified various opportunities for further concrete cooperation, indicatively with the Oman Green Building Council. Frank Wouters took part at the interesting conference EIC connect, Middle East 2016 held in Abu Dhabi, on 17 May 2016 and made a presentation on “Transforming the GCC power sector”. The event aimed at exploring opportunities in the Middle East energy sectors while recognising the challenges that come with operating and contracting in the region. More information here.

Frank Wouters represented the Network at the Dii regular Partner Meeting held at the Emirates Tower Hotel, on May 10, 2016. The Network and Dii are examining modes and joint actions to cooperate on. Stay tuned. More information here.

Dr. Mustapha Taoumi, the Network Energy Technology Expert, contributed as Keynote speaker in the workshop on "Electricity Tariffs: between Efficiency and Rationalization” that was organized in Kuwait on 9 June 2016 by the Kuwait Society of Engineers, in association with the EU GCC Clean Energy Network. During his mission in Kuwait, Dr Taoumi, discussed EU GCC collaboration with the Kuwait Society of Engineers (KSE), the Public Authority for Applied Education and Training and the Ministry of Electricity and Water. Network Background Paper on “Clean energy topics for potential EU GCC cooperation” to be released.
The team is currently elaborating the feedback received from the online consultation on the working groups topics as well as from the recent consultation workshop on May 24. Soon the final version of the background paper will be released. Stay tuned!
