COVID-19 Support

The outbreak of the Coronavirus was recognised as a pandemic by the World Health Organization on 11th March 2020. The currents situation affects everyone. Many of our members work at the forefront of the pandemic, providing care and support. Take a look at only a few initiatives by our Dutch, German and Italian members here. All member organisations are invited to contact the JOIN office and share their own best-practices of support to inspire others.

JOIN Board meets online

On 25th March the JOIN Board met online. What was originally planned as a regular face-to-face meeting in Brussels was held via telecommunication due to the COVID-19 safety measures. The Board discussed the consequences of the coronavirus outbreak on the Annual General meeting and the upcoming events within the Volunteer Swap. Continue reading

Board members at Memorial service for Sir Malcolm Ross

On 9th March the Memorial Service for Sir Malcolm Ross, was held at St George's Chapel at Windsor Castle. Our Chairman Johannes Bucher and Board member Lidwien van der Reep travelled to England to attend the service for the the former Lord Prior of The Most Venerable Order of St John who died last October aged 76.

PR, Marketing & Communication meeting in Copenhagen

From 12th to 13th March, the JOIN Working Group for PR, Marketing & Communication came together in Copenhagen for their annual face-to-face meeting hosted by Johanniterhjaelpen Denmark. Our Austrian, Danish, Dutch and German members as well as the Order of St John presented their communication activities and the JOIN Office gave update on their new communication channels as well as the JOIN working groups and EU projects. JOIN members collaborate in uNowanga project

St John South Africa and the Johanniter Order enable young South Africans to participate in a fully funded and practical healthcare program in Germany. The uNowanga project was launched in South Africa in April 2019 with the aim to address the high youth unemployment rate in South Africa, while offering a solution for the growing need for caregivers and nurses in Germany. Germany: One year after cyclone Idai in Mozambique

One year ago, Mozambique was hit by the devastating cyclone Idai. More than one million people are still dependent on food aid. Despite good harvest forecasts, extreme weather conditions threaten food security in the country. Johanniter International Assistance takes measures together with local partner organisations on improved and reactivated agriculture to overcome malnutrition and increase resilience. Extraordinary Call for Proposals on COVID-19

As a targeted response to the global outbreak of COVID-19, an extraordinary call for proposals has been launched for quickly addressing the specific needs in Europe. All public and private entities, including NGOs, can apply for a grant up to 100% of the value of their project. Due to the extraordinary nature of this call, applications will only be received until 9th April 2020. More information here.

EUinAid youth workers in Limassol

From 2nd to 8th March, youth workers travelled to Limassol within the EUinAid mobility scheme. The youth workers were hosted by DOREA Educational Institute for a week of exchange on teamwork and communication, teaching via blended learning, critical thinking and video making.
