On 28-29 November Brussels will host the EaP CSF Annual Assembly for the first time in 7 years since the meeting that marked the beginning of the Forum’s work. The 8th Annual Assembly will be held under the title “Building a Common Secure and Democratic Future” and will bring together around 200 representatives of CSOs, the EU Institutions and EaP governments for vibrant discussions at over 15 sessions.

Commissioner Johannes Hahn will deliver the opening address to give start to the discussions of this year's Annual Assembly. The opening ceremony will also feature the presentation of the EaP CSF Pavel Sheremet Award to the Crimean journalist Mykola Semena, in recognition for his courage to risk his safety and freedom in the cause of the media freedom in Crimea.

Eastern Partnership Youth Conference “Youth for Rights”

The Eastern Partnership Youth Conference “Youth for Rights” was organised by the EaP CSF and under the patronage of the Slovak Presidency in the Council of the European Union on 27-28 October in Bratislava, Slovakia.

It was initiated by the Working Group 4 “Contacts between People” and brought together over 120 genuine young activists from the EaP countries, Russia and the EU who vigorously advocate human rights and the democratic development of their societies. The conference coordinator is Hovsep Khurshudyan, Working Group 4 Coordinator and EaP CSF Steering Committee Member. H.E. Andrej Kiska, the President of the Slovak Republic, sent a video address to give start to the discussions.  Katarina Mathernova, Deputy Director General in charge of the Eastern Neighbourhood at the Directorate-General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations (DG NEAR) of the European Commission delivered the opening address.

Human Rights Conference: On the frontline: human rights situation in the EaP countries

On 19-20 September 2016 the Eastern Partnership Civil Society Forum (EaP CSF) and its Moldovan National Platform held a human rights conference “On the frontline: human rights situation in the EaP countries”. The event brought together around 50 human rights experts from the EU and EaP civil society community, major international NGOs, EU institutions and the Council of Europe.

The participants adopted two resolutions - on the execution of judgements issued by the European Court of Human Rights regarding human rights violations in conflict areas of the EaP countries and on the effective monitoring of human rights in conflict areas by strengthening the protection of human rights defenders.

Working Group 3 Meeting on Environment, Climate Change and Energy Security

The EaP CSF Working Group 3 “Environment, climate change and energy security” held its Annual Meeting on 13-15 September in Brussels. The event covered topics related to waste management, sustainable development and renewable energy.

Before the work of the Annual Meeting began, WG3 members participated in a joint training with WG2 members. The training was conducted by the representatives from the European Commission (DG NEAR and DG ENVI), UNIDO (UN Industrial Development Organization) and CEE Bankwatch and involved capacity building on green economy policies and monitoring of development funding.

Working Group 2 Annual Meeting

The Eastern Partnership Civil Society Forum Working Group 2 “Economic integration and convergence with EU policies” held its Annual Meeting on 12-14 September in Brussels. The event covered topics pertaining to SME policies, regional development and agriculture, ICT infrastructure integration, cross-border cooperation and implementation of the DCFTAs.

The members of the Working Group 2 presented EaP CSF 2016 re-granting projects, further development of the WG2 with a reform outline prepared by the WG2 Coordinator Yurii Vdovenko, as well as possible contributions of the Working Group 2 to the EaP CSF Annual Assembly in November.

Steering Committee Called for Free and Fair Elections in the EaP Countries

The Steering Committee released a statement in which it expresses its position on the Constitutional referendum in Azerbaijan and on the parliamentary elections in Belarus and Georgia, as well as its stance on the presidential election in Moldova and the upcoming legislative elections in Armenia.

EaP CSF Members Call on Polish and Ukrainian Politicians not to Open Old Wounds

Polish-Ukrainian relations have deteriorated and threaten to get worse after the Polish parliament passed a resolution in July accusing Ukrainians of committing in 1943 genocide on tens of thousands of Poles living in Volhynia.
