fostering clean energy partnerships

Τhe “EU GCC Clean Energy Network II” (CENII) project, funded by the EU, started in January 2016 and continues the work of the “EU-GCC Clean Energy Network” (2010-2013), developing its activities and supporting the Network’s sustainability over the mid-term. The Network is designed to act as a catalyst and element of coordination for the development of cooperation on clean energy, including the related policy and technology aspects among various stakeholders in the EU and GCC countries.
The overall objective of the project is to enhance EU-GCC energy relations by developing new appropriate structures and instruments and by maintaining existing ones for practical cooperation activities of mutual interest in the area of clean energy.

The Network will continue to operate five Working Groups (formerly called Discussion Groups) on the following topics:
WG1 Renewable Energy Sources
WG2 Energy Demand Side Management and Energy Efficiency
WG3 Clean Natural Gas and Related Clean Technologies
WG4 Electricity Interconnections and Market Integration
WG5 Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS)
Climate change aspects will be considered across all 5 WGs.
Currently, the project team is in the process of remobilizing the Network stakeholders and inviting memberships to the WGs.

Network Team Leader, Frank Wouters, gave a lecture at Masdar Institute promoting network scope and activities among an important number of PhD students.

Frank Wouters, Network Team Leader, and Mustapha Taoumi, Energy Technology Expert of the Network, were among the invited delegates contributing at the 4th GCC-EU Workshop on Economic Diversification in the context of Climate Change in 22 February 2016, Manama, Kingdom of Bahrain. The high level workshop was organized by the Supreme Council of Environment in Bahrain.

Network Team Leader, Frank Wouters, participated as speaker to the Emirates Energy Efficiency Summit (EEES 2016).
The overall objective of EEES was to foster enhanced communication, while educating participants about key energy efficiency issues and trends.
