The Newcastle People's Chorus is recruiting new singers now in preparation for a great 2021. No auditions required. We offer the opportunity to join a well-established, active & performing choir committed to a range of social justice issues. It is one of a network of 10 similar choirs in Australia. Tales from the High Stool - 9pm

Pádraig Ó Cuinn hosts this weekly program on 2RRR with interviews with various people involved in local & global music, - festival organisers, musicians, music historians & music journalists. Folk, trad, roots, world, indie music & whatever our guests choose as their influence. No music is out of bounds! Guests are invited into a virtual 'pub' to sit on 'The High Stool', & discuss music, musical influences, craic, politics & whatever they like, with their virtual 'bar-person' - during which they choose a few tracks to share or maybe play some music live. Patrick has interviewed these people in the folk music scene: Janno Scanes (Festival director Yass Irish & Celtic Folk Festiva)l; Wally Byrne (Southern Sydney Folk Club); Susie Bishop, vocalist & violinist of Chaika, Elysian Fields, Shindig, Pacific Opera, The Marais Ensemble, Laura & Susie. Over coming weeks he has lined up Sullie (singer-songwriter, originally from the West of Ireland now based in Sydney) Paddy Hanna, Luka Bloom, Warren Fahey, Jason Roweth, Paul from Stringline & Elijah Wald (Grammy winner & musicologist).

The Foreday Riders - 8pm

After two sell-out shows in September & October, the 'Riders' are true legends of Australian Blues, this being their 53rd year together as a band. And they are as good as ever! Led by brothers Ron & Jeff King, the Riders are often referred to as 'The University Of The Blues', for the number of blues-players who have spent some time in the band & moved on to become established performers in their own right. The Folk Federation of NSW's End of Year Folk Bash   2-6pm

A wonderful social occasion with a variety of folk performers including the mighty Black Joak Mummers Play. Also The Fossickers , Craig Sinclair, Sweet Songs & Soft Guitar from Newcastle, & The Last Aurochs

We are able to have more numbers attending than originally thought, but we still have to comply with COVID 19 restrictions - don't attend if you are feeling unwell, maintain a level of social distancing when standing & perhaps wear a mask when singing. We will also be marking the Folk Fed's 50th anniversary, with a few words (in person & by video) from some of the people who brought you the 1970 Port Jackson Folk Festival which resulted in the founding of the Folk Federation of NSW 50 years ago.

The Drey Rollan Band - 8pm

The Drey Rollan Band - paying tribute to the music of Chicago Blues legends, Howlin' Wolf & Muddy Waters! Both born in Mississippi, but like many other Southern blues musicians, they later moved to Chicago, where they became major players & rivals on the Chicago blues scene. Some of Howlin' Wolf's best known songs are Smokestack Lightnin', Killing Floor, & Spoonful, while Muddy Waters is known for Hoochie Coochie Man, Got My Mojo Working, I Just Want To Make Love To You, & I'm Ready, all of which have becomes blues standards.
