Parasha Ki Teitzei: LAWS, BYE-LAWS, WHY LAWS, DIVINE LAWS,
By Evelyn Haies © September 12, 2016
“How could I even think of keeping something that does not belong to me and how could I even think of ignoring my fellow Jew’s lost object when he is anguished at its loss”
“You shall not have in your purse a stone and a stone – a large one and a small one.”
Laws about women captured in war,
A conversion to wife or sent out the door.
Laws about a beloved or hated wife
And who is the bechor to eliminate strife.
Laws about the rebellious son
And punishment for the evil he has done
Who is the one to inherit?
Bye to laws for those without merit.
Laws manage the land with stop and go lights
Unifying diversity and adversity by awarding proper rights
Returning lost items, not confusing the sexes
Following with compassion, not with self directed reflexes.
Not taking the baby bird from in front of its mother
Not fencing the roof, a failure to bother
Not mixing when sowing and plowing
Not doing what HIS laws are not allowing.
Not combining wool and linen
Not doing the forbidden
Not seeking peace with the Amorite and Moabite
Bye to compensations that would re-ignite the fight.
Not late in paying the day worker,
Remembering slavery having been a forced laborer.
Tzaras is the punishment for slander
Deliberate damages are caused by propaganda.
The Levirite Marriage is a kindness to remind
That family is a continuity that does not leave its members behind
A perfect and honest weight is not for debate
Over and under is bye to laws; investigate!
Remember how Amalek struck the faint and the weak
His cruelty shows contempt of HASHEM and the goodness we seek
Bye to laws were decisions that gave cause for wrong
Favoring Rachel and Yosef were conclusions that their legacies belong.
Rachel was caring and sharing
Yosef was a victim and repairing
HASHEM created the world with laws for order
Bye to laws left faults and the world in disorder
Living in a land where there is dishonesty
Humility is a midos that supports respectability
Remembering Sodom and Gemorrah,
Choose HASHEM as director perfecting with HIS Divine Laws of Torah.
