A message from Steve Taberner re Singlets:
hello dear humans
thank you for your adorable participations in our ridiculous adventures…..tiny threads of humanity reach across space like spidery filaments, offering precious lifelines for zingery, singery, and thingery. we hope we have been of some use to you, and you, to us. we are quietly inspired. the current singlet season will draw to a close on tuesday with the final classic singlet for this singlet incarnation.

John Roberts gave a zoom concert recently for the Folk Song Society of Greater Boston & the video remains on his Facebook page. (Skip the first 6 minutes.) Danny Spooner enjoyed the company of John Roberts & the others participating in this zoom. Like Danny, John came from England originally & shares his magnificent repertoire of traditional songs & his encyclopedic knowledge with great warmth & charm - accompanied on concertina (John also plays the banjo). (Chris Maltby, Prue Cancian & Margaret Walters also met several of these people 3 years ago in Boston & at the Old Songs Festival.) People familiar with the song 'Row On' which John sings at the end of the concert will learn some amazing stories about its supposed origins. Donations to John may be made at the yellow 'Donate' button on the FSSGB page using your PayPal account or a credit card.

The Boston Song Sessions list many virtual singing sessions around the world - & the times for the sessions are magically translated into whatever the time is where you are viewing the site. Many of the English ones are at 5am - & that doesn't work for many - but there's one in Portland, Oregon on a Sunday around midday & another in Seattle at noon on Monday which I've been visiting regularly. Here's one that starts at 9.15am AEST on a Wednesday morning run by the Golden Link Folk Singing Society, based in Rochester, NY. 7.15pm - Open to connect = 9.15am next day AEST. Sing-around begins 15 minutes later.Virtual sing-arounds actually provide some advantages over in-person sing-arounds. We've seen participation from people around the United States & a few from other countries. Sometimes travel to our in-person sing-arounds can be an impediment to attending, especially on work nights. So, due to the success of the current Zoom sing-arounds, we will continue them, perhaps once a month, even when things return to normal. Here's the quick connection information link. Meeting ID: 875 8613 7865.
