Your WoodworkingWeb Gazette

Welcome to Issue 2.07  ~  July 2015

First, let me say Happy Canada Day to my fellow Canadians and Happy Independence Day to my neighbours to the south! Community, for me, is so important - locally, nationally, world-wide, and online, in communities such as ours.

Speaking of our community, we have had some exciting challenges recently, from hand tool collections and favourite tool reviews, to clamp storage designs, and, now, we have our Summer Awards!  I hope you have your saws and planes sharpened , 'cause it is time to make some wood bling!

Summer Awards

Theme: Backyard Bling

Your backyard is your oasis, so why not create something special, this summer, to enhance it, to celebrate it, to give it a little bling?! For this Summer Awards, create something special, big or small, for your backyard (or balcony, if that’s what you have).

"Just started getting back into woodworking. Partly to restore this house that we bought last year, partly to get back into a hobby I love." ~ Chris S

Storage Shed for BBQ by Mike40
My wife doesn’t like storing our big gas grill in our garden shed because it takes too much space (and she keeps buying more outdoor furniture to store in it over the winter). My solution to keep her sweet is to build a small shed to house the grill year around in the area on our terrace where we use it.

Shaker End Table by 3fingerpat

I volunteered to make this table for as a raffle prize for a non-profit organization’s convention later this summer. I have built several of these for my kids, one in Mahogany and one in curly Maple. Both of those were done using hand tools only, but this build will be a blend of both hand and power tools

Theme Challenge:

Celebrating and honouring your nation, your country and the flag (whichever nation/country you are in). We’d love to see your flag-related creations. Perhaps it is a flag; maybe it is something using the colours.

Post photos of your "FLAG challenge" creations in the theme's comments section here.
