Welcome Our New Staff

On March 1st, we said goodbye to long-time staff member and beloved case worker, Denise Sauvageau. Denise touched many lives while she was here, and her generosity of spirit and deep faith kept everyone—co-workers and clients, alike—uplifted. She has moved home to Niagara Falls to take care of her aging parents. We wish her many blessings!

Intake and Case Management
Merri Sayler

Merri will be taking over Denise’s position as Case Management Worker. She is a Wisconsin native, who served in the U. S. Army as a Russian Linguist working for the National Security Agency. After discharge, she and her husband Jim moved to Rocky Ridge, MD, where they had their children, son Matthew and daughter Erin. Currently, she resides in Pennsylvania.

Marketing Manager
Lynn Tayler

Lynn is the new Marketing Manager for Seton Center Inc. She worked as a freelance writer and business consultant before obtaining a position with Mother Seton School as a Marketing and Communications Specialist. She now splits her time between the Seton Center and MSS.

Our Volunteers

Running the Race

"And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the Pioneer and Perfecter of Faith." Hebrews 12:1-2

Our volunteers continue to contribute their valuable time, talents, and treasures for Seton Center Outreach and Seton Family Store. They work alongside our Family Store staff, collecting and sorting donations or working at the checkout. You may see them delivering baked goods to the area nursing homes, or greeting visitors to the Outreach office. Volunteers even work behind the scenes… helping us build our new website, plan events, or conduct various administrative tasks, increasing our staff’s ability to serve those affected by poverty. Without volunteers, we could not continue to expand our outreach efforts.

On April 17th, we held our annual Volunteer Appreciation Dinner at Mountaingate Family Restaurant. It’s a small token of appreciation for the enormous efforts of our volunteers. They don’t ask for recognition or incentives — they are here because they want to serve God by serving their neighbors in need.

Dennis is one of our volunteers who helps staff the Seton Family Store. He’s an example of how invested our volunteers are in our success. Here’s what some community members had to say about Dennis:

“Dennis always greets me by name and takes the time to ask how I am every time I visit the store. All of your volunteers are wonderful!” -Christy
“We love Dennis! He is so kind! He never gets rattled when we bring a lot of treasures up to purchase!” -Twila

In the last 3 months, volunteers have gifted us with 1,310 hours of service. This equates to an investment of $20,029.31! Their endurance and grace expands our ability to serve the community by at least 3 full-time staff each year! Come make a difference with us! Contact Missy at

Building Bridges

Outreach Programs

Our outreach program continues to provide valuable resources and tools for our neighbors in need. Through partnerships with local organizations and businesses, such as The Mount and Consumer Auto, we have been able to offer free help to the community with such things as buying and maintaining a car, savings strategies for the future, and overdose response training. Our Getting Ahead in a Just Getting By World program continues to prove successful in empowering clients to move out of a poverty mindset and into productive, stable lifestyles. One of our success stories is that of Tommy D.

Tommy suffered agoraphobia, had no job or car, and no prospects. But he wanted to do better. He attended a resource meeting and from there, blossomed into a new life. He now has a well-paying job, got his license and bought a car, and is married with a child on the way. He is in our current Getting Ahead class and continues to build a better, stronger bridge out of poverty for himself and his family.

DePaul Dental Program
"I used to I go out of my way to talk to people"

During the application process for assistance through Seton Center’s DePaul Dental Program, we ask “How long has it been since you last went to the dentist?” Most say “over 3 years” and some even say “more than 10 years.” Our clients tell us that they cannot afford dental work, and often wait until they are in extreme pain before getting things taken care of.

During their time in the DePaul Dental Program, we teach them how dental care CAN be affordable if they maintain a healthy mouth by going for regular cleanings and exams. If a problem is caught early, the cost of restoration of the tooth is less costly and less painful, and the tooth may be saved rather than pulled.

We offer free monthly DePaul Dental Health Club sessions to our dental clients as well as the community at large.

So far, 15 clients have earned a preventive dental visit by attending over 5 DePaul Dental Health Club sessions. These education and prevention efforts are improving lives in our community!

We could not do what we do without the generosity of partnering dentists and donors from the community.

Are you willing to put your money where your mouth is?

People, especially seniors, living without dental insurance are 67% more likely to develop heart disease and 29% more likely to have diabetes* because they can’t afford routine oral care that could prevent these problems. Would you consider donating the cost of a cleaning to help the DePaul Dental Health Program continue their community outreach? You could help save a life...and that’s something to smile about! (*per the National Association of Dental Plans, 2016)

Making a Difference... One Purchase at a Time

The Seton Family Store is often the first contact our community has with Seton Center Inc. Since the move from the old building, we’ve seen an increase in the amount and quality of donated items, as well as the number of shoppers. We recently redesigned our brochure and updated our donation guidelines to show we are again accepting donations of pre-loved books and small pieces of furniture in good condition.

January—March 2019
Thanks to the generosity of our donors and patrons, the Seton Family Store was able to contribute $30,025 toward our Outreach Programs.

50 Years of Bringing Hope to the Valley

Seton Center Inc. has provided assistance to the community for fifty years. Starting with humble origins as a day care center and second-hand shop, we have grown to be the leading resource for Northern Frederick County. While we may assist in emergency situations, we endeavor to provide more than a handout. Our mission is to provide hope.

But we cannot do it without you. We rely on the generosity of our donors to continue to offer the tools people need to improve their lives, to help them Get Ahead and Stay Ahead, to help Build Resources, and to smile their way to health in our DePaul Dental Program.

Will you be a part of the hope we give? Will you partner with us to continue the legacy?
