Maths and the economy

A new report The Importance of Advanced Physical and Mathematical Sciences to the Australian Economy was commisioned by the Office of the Chief Scientist and the Australian Academy of Science and produced by the Centre for International Economics (CIE).

The report combines the expertise of Australia’s scientific community with that of business and industry and estimates that the contribution of the APM sciences is 22% or around $292 billion per year.

Maths teacher wanted for project

United Way Australia is looking for a secondary school mathematics teacher to get involved in an innovative project.

Young people in low socio-economic communities face significant financial issues. Based on their input United Way Australia and ING DIRECT have specifically developed online content that allows students (in the classroom) to explore issues relating to their financial wellbeing.
