Your WoodworkingWeb Gazette

Welcome to Issue 2.04  ~  April 2015

Spring, Earth Day, new beginnings -  just some of the things that come to mind when I think of the month of "April".

New beginnings, in regards to woodworking, is about taking the wood of a fallen tree and giving it a new life. With the topic of our Spring Awards event (Just Pallet Wood) this new beginning is even more special, as we add a second "new beginning" through yet another transformation of the wood.

Besides our Awards event, what other "new beginnings" are happening in your shop this month?

Pallet Wood Coffee Table

Michael De Petro

"I decided to give using pallet wood a try by designing and making this coffee table. It was quite a process but the end result was satisfying. My original plan was to stain it but once I assembled it I decided to leave it natural."

Mahogany Trestle Table
Created by Luke Addington

"This is a mahogany trestle table I finished for a client about 6 months ago. The table was done entirely by hand except for the cove molding (haven’t made any good molding planes yet). The base is finished with Osmo oil/wax."

Interview With A Woodworker: Jeff Vandenberg

"It all started when I was 4 years of age. I was very interested in what my grandfather was doing on my parents home remodel. I always sat there and watched If they need something I would bring it to them (my father and grandfather). they made sure to always tell me the proper name of any tool and what it was used for and then, I would get quizzed...."

"planning on retiring in a few years and just starting to think about taking up wood working as a hobby. Absolute novice that will need a lot of practice, and advice before I become even a little competent. Looking for some basic instruction." ~ Bill
