Joseph Drouhin: tradition and excellence
Founded in Beaune in 1880, Maison Joseph Drouhin's cellars have spread from the historical cellars of the Dukes of Burgundy and the Kings of France in Beaune (12th–18th centuries) to the Moulin de Vaudon, an 18th century watermill in Chablis.
The Joseph Drouhin Domaine was assembled parcel by parcel over the years and today comprises 80 hectares (197.5 acres) of vineyards in Côte de Nuits, Côte de Beaune, Côte Chalonnaise and Chablis. It is one of the most important domains in Burgundy, with more than two thirds of the vineyards classified as Premier and Grand Crus.
With close to 90 different appellations, Joseph Drouhin offers a fascinating array of Burgundy terroirs in all their authenticity and subtle variations.

The Great Post Office Scandal: now available in paperback
Updated first edition, including two new chapters on developments in 2022.
In April 2021, the Court of Appeal quashed the convictions of 39 former Subpostmasters and ruled their prosecutions were an affront to the public conscience. They were just a few of the hundreds who had been prosecuted by the Post Office using IT evidence from an unreliable computer system called Horizon. When the Post Office became aware that Horizon didn't work properly, it covered it up.
The Great Post Office Scandal is the story of how these innocent people had their lives ruined by a once-loved national institution and how, against overwhelming odds, they fought back to clear their names.
Bath Publishing are donating 5% of income from sales of the paperback edition to helping Subpostmasters via the Horizon Scandal Fund: read more here.
The new edition of The Great Post Office Scandal (£13.99) is available to pre-order now at bathpublishing.com.

Elves en route as the full Christmas experience returns to Bath
For the first time since 2019, Bath is preparing for the full festive showcase, which this year includes the largest gathering of elves the city has ever seen.
The fun begins on Thursday 17 November with the Countdown to Christmas. Residents and visitors are invited to don their hats, dress as an elf and join the Great Elf Gathering in Milsom Street, which will feature music and entertainment, before the Christmas Light Trail Switch On.
Joining the Great Elf Gathering will be the Bath BID Swapshop elves who are back again due to hugely popular demand, following the first ever Elves’ Swapshop held last year. The Swapshop, open from 24 November until 20 December, allows children to bring an old toy to the Elf-o-Matic machine in Abbeygate Street. The old toy is exchanged for a golden token, before being upcycled by the elves for a new lease of life.
Children can then exchange their golden token for a newly upcycled toy, spreading Christmas cheer and encouraging a sustainable approach to the season.

David Simon Contemporary: Lydia Corbett & Pablo Picasso, until 28 November
A rare exhibition of paintings, works on paper and ceramics by Lydia Corbett and Pablo Picasso. Lydia Corbett, née Sylvette David, was the subject of more than 60 paintings and sculptures by Picasso after they met in 1953. Now in her late eighties and with failing eyesight, she uses her ‘inner eye’ to work directly onto canvas and wooden panels, creating bold and powerful compositions in oils and watercolours.

Bath War Memorial
This week’s archive photograph shows Bath’s war memorial shortly after it was unveiled at a special dedication service by Field Marshal Viscount Allenby on 3 November 1927. The memorial was designed by Sir Reginald Blomfield, and followed his design for memorials in the cemeteries established by the Imperial War Graves Commission. Just over a decade earlier, Blomfield had also overseen the conversion of the former Sydney College at the end of Great Pulteney Street to the Holburne Museum.

Volunteers needed for the UK's biggest winter food drive
As food banks and frontline charities face up to their hardest Christmas ever, people in Bath can give the gift of their time by taking part in the UK’s biggest food donation drive.
The Tesco Food Collection is taking place in all Tesco stores from 1–3 December and the Trussell Trust and FareShare are urging volunteers to sign up to support the event in store. It comes as both charities face an unprecedented demand for food. The Trussell Trust, which has the largest food bank network in the UK, has seen a 46% increase in the number of food parcels given out in recent months, while FareShare has a growing list of thousands more frontline charities seeking food.
During the collection, Tesco customers in Bath will be encouraged to donate long-life food to support the charities in their work. Donations for the Trussell Trust will help its network of food banks provide emergency food parcels to people in crisis, while donations to FareShare will support its food deliveries to thousands of frontline charities.
You can sign up to volunteer with FareShare at fareshare.org.uk or with the Trussell Trust at trusselltrust.org
