These are Kate’s words:
"After I returned from the first brain op, I asked Richard to keep working on our house renovation. We spent the last money on decking timber. It may sound trite and stupidly ridiculous to others but all I could concentrate on in those early days was seeing where my family was going to be after I was gone.
I couldn't bear the thought of not seeing where they were... It still and does make me fraught with panic, of not being able to picture where my children are playing, where my husband is showering, where they will sit to dinner, where they will play all the board games that I planned to whip their butts at, where my kids will sit alone in their rooms looking at pictures of me.
I want to see plants in my barren backyard. I want a shed for my husband to tinker. I want the 3rd 'bedroom' (currently a storeroom) carpeted and turned into a bedroom for my little girl. A room I can make special just for her, a room her mum made for her. I guess I want too many things.
I just thought there would be time"
While we have all rallied around Kate emotionally, we recently became aware that due to a credit card expiry date, Kate missed being covered by her insurance policy's 3 month waiting period for 'pre-existing conditions' clause by 5 days! This seems to add an even more unfair aspect to an already cruel and unfair situation.
Kate is a wonderful, kind, witty and talented person who's sparkling personality has won her many friends and followers in the 2 years I have known her. She has tirelessly worked in her cake business to help support her family and generously donated her time and beautiful work to local charities, schools and by way of free tutorials in the cake community.
Kate and her very young children, Eve, 3 and Maclan, 5 months are all being cared for by their amazing Dad, Kate's husband, Richard. He has been given leave by his very understanding company but as you can imagine, this itself presents another financial burden.
The International Cake Community has come together in many ways to support Kate and try to ease some of her burden by raising enough money to cover her medical bills and some pressing bills that have come from her illness.
I urge you to please give whatever you can, no matter how big or small a donation. We all know when we look at our children, this could be us.
All Kate wants is to spend some quality time with her beautiful family and we want to give that to her, financial worry free.
Please help in any way you can xxxxx
