    Involving young people in Healthwatch East Sussex

    If you are connected with any organisations or network supporting the involvement of young people in health related issues (including mental health), please get in touch.

    We are also keen to hear from young people who are interested in volunteering with Healthwatch East Sussex or finding out more about the Young Inspector programme, recently transferred across to East Sussex Community Voice from the local authority.

    East Sussex Better Together

    Shaping health and social care services events

    In November there are three Shaping Health and Social Care events. These are jointly hosted by the three local NHS clinical commissioning groups, and East Sussex County Council.

    The events offer a further opportunity for you to share views and ideas about how health and social care services are delivered in our county.

    • 17 November - 5.30pm arrival for registration and refreshments - the event will run 6pm-8.30pm. Sussex Coast College, Station Approach (next to Hastings Train Station), Hastings, TN34 1BA
    • 19 November - 1.30pm arrival for registration and refreshments - the event will run 2pm-4.30pm. Winter Garden, Gold Room, 14 Compton St,Eastbourne, BN21 4BP

    Nursing and Midwifery Council

    There is a new leaflet from the Nursing and Midwifery Council that explains what a professional code means for patients and service users and the standards of care they should expect. It also gives some information about how patients, service users and carers can raise concerns if they are unhappy with the care received.

    Tough budget decisions – adult social care savings

    East Sussex County Council will have £40 million less to spend on adult social care services by March 2019. This is in addition to the £28 million that has been already saved from these services since 2013.

    The Care Act

    How things have changed since April 2015

    The Care Act came into force in April 2015 and is the biggest change in social care for 60 years.

    Strong leadership and collaboration are crucial

    The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has published its annual analysis of the quality of health and adult social care in England. This is the first time such a national assessment has been possible following CQC’s introduction of a tough, rigorous ratings system.

    ICE (Improving Carers Experience) are running a free information course where you can find out more about mental health, what help you can offer the person you support and look after yourself too.

    3Ts Redevelopment - Royal Sussex County Hospital

    Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust has today received word that Her Majesty’s Treasury has given the final approval of the Full Business Case for the 3Ts Redevelopment of the Royal Sussex County Hospital. Although awaiting formal confirmation by letter, the news could not be more welcome.
