Florida State students launch #PowerOfWe campaign to promote diversity, inclusion

“As a nation, we are experiencing a toxic political climate and public discord. We believe at Florida State, we can write a different story, where differences are not a reason to show discord and division, but a chance to make this world a better place,” said junior Inam Sakinah, one of the organizers of the #PowerOfWe campaign event held Tuesday Sept. 20, on Landis Green.

Native American, indigenous health equity to be focus of new FSU research center

John Lowe, a Cherokee Native American tribal member and one of only 20 Native American nurses in the United States who has a doctoral degree, is the new endowed McKenzie Professor in Health Disparities Research at the College of Nursing. At FSU, he will create the Center for Indigenous Nursing Research for Health Equity — the first research center of its kind worldwide. Read more ...

#Hermine: FSU meteorology student takes weather world by storm

Hurricane Hermine was FSU meteorology student Matt Reagan’s perfect storm. It marked the first time he’d be able to use the skills and expertise that he’d worked so hard to master in FSU’s renowned meteorology program: his many years of math, his efforts to earn a certificate in emergency management, his laser focus on tropical meteorology, and keen interest in social media. Sept. 28: FSU Reading Marathon

Book lovers will come together for Florida State University’s sixth annual Reading Marathon to celebrate storytelling by reading aloud fables, fairy tales and myths continuously in a 24-hour time period. The marathon starts at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 28, and is expected to run until 9 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 29, on the main floor of Strozier Library just outside of Special Collections. Interested readers should select their favorite tale and sign up for a time to read via SignUp at http://signup.com/go/H4NnMD.
