Maternity services review
Our call for evidence on the ESHT maternity services in Eastbourne and Hastings, led to 197 people completing a survey. There were 16 case studies, and 76 women signed up for further involvement.
The next stage of the work was an enter and view visit, which took place in March 2016. Our Authorised Representatives visited the services and were able to gather views over a three day period, from mothers, fathers, partners and family members.
A draft report of what people have told us about the services will be presented to ESHT, and to the ESHT Quality Improvement Board in May. It will also be submitted to the Health Overview Scrutiny Committee for its 30 June meeting.

Healthwatch East Sussex recently completed a very short (3 minutes) promotional video aimed at those who don’t yet know much or anything about PPGs, and to encourage people of all ages to get involved.
It is designed to be shown with or without sound. We hope GP Practices with TV screens will be willing to show the video. It is suitable for use in colleges or any community event, and is freely available to all on Youtube via this link.
Please watch and share to whoever you can – put it on your own Facebook page!

In June 2015, an East Sussex Better Together Public Reference Forum was launched to increase ways for local people to have a say and inform the development of local services. This arrangement builds on work already underway to increase understanding about East Sussex Better Together. Its focus has been to increase the number of local people interested in joining clinicians and professionals to co-design health and social care services.
The forum is managed by East Sussex Community Voice (ESCV), which is also the provider of Healthwatch East Sussex.
Between 20 July 2015 and 20 January 2016 the Public Reference Forum (PRF) talked to 905 people (as of 31 March it's 1128), signed 270 people up to receive more information, and recorded peoples experiences in 505 surveys.
To sign up to the Public Reference Forum you can contact Frances Mackenzie, Signposting and information officer - East Sussex Better Together.

3VA, HVA and RVA are working with East Sussex Better Together (ESBT) to understand how best to support local community activity and the work of local neighbourhood groups. This activity is sometimes known as building community resilience. An explanatory video can be viewed here - www.youtube.com/watch?v=eHyv_LFXkVU

How to get involved
The project wants to hear your views on a few key questions:
- Thinking about your work in the community what difference are you making and what are you most proud of?
- What could help you to do more of the work you think is most important – or do it better?
- What are your dreams and ambitions for your community/the community you work in?
- What things could get in the way of achieving positive change for your community/the community you work in?
- What are the most important messages for all those involved in communities?
You can submit your comments, ideas and experiences to resilience@hvauk.org, or complete an online survey: www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/communityresilienceeastsussex. Submissions should be received by 25 April and will inform the final report in May 2016.
Workshop-style events will be in April and early May. You can hear more about the project, offer views and network. All events are free and open to attend.
