It seems like every week we snag a few new souls to the joys of PS

—in other words, the Newsletter—even though I can’t help but figure that everyone who’s heard of us gets sight of my or Mike’s or Nicky’s ramblings every Friday. Not so, Believers. Why, just yesterday, we discovered that Chris Morey and his Dark Regions caballeros were out there in the PS Newsletter-less wilderness—needless to say, we’ve rectified the oversight and Chris is now safely aboard and already feverishly awaiting his first missive from the fog-shrouded minarets and gables of PS Towers, way up on the hill that drops from the church next door down the old logging road that leads to the sea. So, hey, Chris, I and the whole PS team bid you a warm and funky welcome. Now go buy some books, ya big lunkhead!

Yes, as you can see, we’re on a selling binge. Again!

Well, not so much ‘selling’ as ‘clearing’. Mike has been dribbling on at the staff/production/scheduling meeting every Monday morning begging us to come up with something that’ll clear a little much-needed space in the box storage room at the special unit across old Hornsea and close to the road signs that point to the mystical and mysterious city of Kingston upon Hull and the discordant sirens who hum strange tunes along the grassy verges of the ancient A1079. So, the result of several weeks of reports and papers—yeah, I know, it sounds like we know what the hell we’re doing (but you’re not gonna be fooled by that, are ya!)—Mike has come up with a new site.

What’s it called, Unca Pete?

Well, Morton, I’m glad you axed me that. It, too, is called PS—or rather, it’s called PS, too. Or even, it’s called PS2 (confused? Heh, and I’m barely started here!), and in the treasure-laden coves, crannies and crevasses—all of ‘em perfectly chiseled and honed to book-size—we’ve got piles of goodies (great goodies, mind you) at rock bottom kickass prices. And all or most of them may well be items you missed out on. I mean, heck, come on . . . you can’t buy every damn thing, for Pete’s sake (yes, not even for my sake) so here’s your chance to pick up a few rarities and not necessarily have to forfeit eating for the next few days.

Seventeen years in the making . . .

. . . that’s what this new initiative has notched up but just in case you’re thinking, hey, maybe we can pick up a deluxe signed and slipcased copy of Ray Bradbury’s More Nasty Stuff That Way Went (I’m kiddin’ ya, I’m kiddin’ ya!), be aware that it’s the ‘overs’ left after the first and even second flush of titles we brought out up to and including 2012. But, of course, supplies are uber-limited so it’s first come and first served: if you place an order and you get a message saying we’re sold out then, yessir, pilgrim, it means we’re sold out. So don’t write to us and plead or even threaten. Also worth noting the postage, too—take a look at this:

  • UK: First book = £2.99; all additional books = £1 each.
  • Europe: First book = £3.99; all additional books = £1 each.
  • US/CANADA: First book = £4.99; all additional books = £1 each.
  • REST OF WORLD: First book = £8.99; all additional books = £1 each.

These items are priced to sell, kids. And best of all, this new departure gives Mike and the design guys a great opportunity to make the regular site more content-rich, thus enabling us to introduce video readings (three already signed up), Nick Gevers’s great author interviews section, and from Mike himself a big push on more and more e-books coverage and promotion.

Meanwhile, as you might expect . . .

Life goes on regardless and the latest development from Mike’s House of Ideas is this cover for the long promised and anticipated THE BEST OF IAN McDONALD. We’re aiming to have at least the unsigned edition for this ready for EasterCon in just a few weeks (Yikes!!!) along with;

  • the new Telemass novella from Eric Brown, a Starship novelette (also from Eric),
  • two novellas from Matt-the-man Hughes, a truly off-the-wall novella from Stephen Baxter that reads like a long lost episode of the McNee/Rigg Avengers
  • and a funky far out novella from Ian Watson

(Order pages for all these will be going up in the next couple of weeks.) So if you weren’t already planning on hitting Manchester around Easter egg time then there’s a whole passle of reasons to change your mind. Plus there’s the little matter of that drink you promised me . . .

Just space to mention a couple of pieces of Ramsey Campbell news.

Coming hot on the heels of my completing an Introduction to the deluxe re-issue of Ramsey’s debut novel, THE DOLL WHO ATE HIS MOTHER for Jerad over at Centipede Press, it was nice to see both Ramsey and PS get a mention in a recent edition of one of the UK’s most respected broadsheets, The Guardian—go here and check it out.

We’re aiming to have copies for sale in due course.

And it was good to see one of the best ever interviews with the Man here:

Coming soon . . .

. . . will be Nicky’s new PS Reviews section, still under development. Phew! If that isn’t enough to keep you out of mischief, well . . . I just don’t know. So have yourselves a fab weekend, treat yourselves to some super books at truly knockdown prices, and get ready for the summer sunshine. I just stuck my head over the east wing parapet of PS Towers and I can smell that sunshine lying crouched out behind the woods. Not long now!

Best as always

Pete
