Dementia and Imagination

Understanding art in dementia friendly communities.

Welcome to our first newsletter!

Meet The Team

We’re delighted to bring you our first newsletter which offers a short introduction to our project and the team.

We hope our research will be of interest to a variety of people, including people living with dementia and their families, carers, and communities, staff working in care settings, and government and other organisations interested in developments of arts in health.

We’ll be putting together this update 6 times a year to keep you Informed of our project’s progress and to let you know what the team have been doing.

Our project aims to explore how art can help people with dementia. The project involves a large team made up of a number of partners from: universities, the NHS, voluntary sector, local government and artists.

You are very welcome to share this newsletter with your friends and colleagues or alternatively email: imagination@bangor.ac.uk to be added to our mailing list.

Connected Communities Showcase

The team recently exhibited as part of the Connected Communities Showcase in Cardiff on the 1st and 2nd July at the Motorpoint Arena.

The Dementia and Imagination project is funded by the Connected Communities scheme which is led by the Arts and Humanities Research Council.

The research team presented a poster update of the project so far and enjoyed visiting the many stands and exhibitors to share and exchange ideas

Our Three Intervention Sites

During the project, our researchers will be observing our participants at three different sites in Denbighshire, Newcastle and Nottinghamshire. Each site will lead four groups across a twelve month period.

Denbighshire is almost halfway through its first intervention group already and is now beginning recruitment for the 2nd group in September. You can find out more about Denbighshire's recruitment process on our website.

Newcastle have just begun their intervention sessions, and so far they have been well received.

Derbyshire will also soon be underway having received its final NHS approval before commencing recruitment.

We’ll keep you updated with progress at each site throughout our interventions.

Our website is now live at: www.dementiaandimagination.org.uk
