My Anthony, Barry & Macavity-nominated series ...

Ciao bella, !

I'm proud of this series, but not because of the nominations. I'm proud of it because the first book in the Gabriella Giovanni Mystery Series, Blessed are the Dead, was the very first book I ever wrote in my life.

I was in my mid-40s and when I finished writing it, I could hardly believe I had written an entire book.

I was able to get an agent to represent it who then nabbed me a four-book deal with HarperCollins.

When I first sat down to write the book, I didn't do it with the hopes of getting it published. You see, writing this book, featuring San Francisco newspaper reporter Gabriella Giovanni, was a form of therapy for me.

It was based on my own dealings with a serial killer while I worked as a crime reporter.

The guy preyed on little girls. And told me exactly what and how he did it all.

When I became the mother of two girls, I realized I had some PTSD and so I sat down to write a book about the guy to get him out of my head.

But the book morphed into fiction. At the time, the guy was still alive in San Quentin, but by the time the book was published, he was dead.

And by writing about him, I got him out of my head.

Writing down what scares me is my own therapy. It is why I write crime fiction.

Anyway, I loved writing the Gabriella Giovanni series and hope you enjoy it as well.

Thank you for reading my books!

Grazie mille,

Kristi

P.S. If you are into true crime, I co-wrote a memoir style book about the serial killer with the mother of one of his victims called Letters from a Serial Killer. HERE IT IS.
