This week on 13 September BritCham opened it's new Season with a gastronomic bang!
At the 10th Annual Curry Cook-Off we had 8 lovely teams that we would like to applaud and thank! The skill level this year was definitely among the best we have ever had! And such amazing teams had signed-up! For example, Reinis Odiņš bravely took on the challenge alone and went for a traditional Latvian angle by making Potato Curry. Also interestingly enough this year we had 2 educational institutions to try their hand in cooking - Lahore Lynx team from the International School of Latvia with their new director in lead presented Butter Chicken Curry and RISEBA Chefs surprised us with an authentic Sri Lankan cuisine and presented Grandma's Best Sri Lankan Black Chicken Curry.
We would like to believe that for some very good deeds we all were rewarded with amazing weather. It turned Albert Hotel's Star Lounge into a sun lounge and ensured that everyone was smiling even before the curries were served. As expected the other Curry Cook-Off trade marks - laid back atmosphere and highly pleasant company - were obvious from the very beginning and we trust that the guests and teams all had a very enjoyable evening.
When all the curries were tried and experienced, our jury - Albert Hotel chef Anatolijs Pimanovs, the knowledgeable and charming volunteer Ilze Termane and Kully Singh, the owner of Singh's restaurant - made their decision known:
3rd place, gift certificate from Indian Raja restaurant, "No More Boring Meals" gift bag from Santa Maria, signed cookbook “Time to Cook” by Signe Meirāne and a gift set from Cobra Beer went to Of Spice & Men who had made Chicken Karahi.
2nd place, gift certificate from restaurant Traveller, "No More Boring Meals" gift bag from Santa Maria, signed cookbook “Time to Cook” by Signe Meirāne and a gift set from Cobra Beer was presented to Discovery Curry with Curious Cauli
1st place, the cup, 3 course meal for 4 persons at “Singh’s” restaurant, gift certificate from restaurant C.U.T, "No More Boring Meals" gift bag from Santa Maria and a signed cookbook “Time to Cook” by Signe Meirāne was awarded to the team who has diligently participated in our Curry Cook-Offs since 2008 - Inter-Curry! They had cooked a brilliant Chicken Curry.
The team Last Minute Effort earned a special mention for their Dhal Curry. The judges praised their curry for being a very goof effort, even if it had been last minute :)
Al-Chem with their Lamb Curry earned the title of the Guest Favourite, the cup, gift certificate from Indian Raja restaurant, 1 night stay at SemaraH Hotel Lielupe for 2 persons with 2hrs visit for 2 persons to SPA & Wellness centre, "No More Boring Meals" gift bag from Santa Maria, signed cookbook “Time to Cook” by Signe Meirāne and a gift set from Cobra Beer.
And we would like to send many thanks to our supporters Albert Hotel, Cobra Beer, Četras sezonas, Indian Raja, Mercure Riga Centre Hotel, Radisson Blu Elizabete Hotel, Santa Maria, SemaraH Hotels and Singh's restaurant. Without you this evening would not be the excellent 10th Curry Cook-Off it was.
Now we can put our spices on the shelf for a while, but in a year's time lets meet again to enjoy another delightful Curry Cook-Off!
